Report  Today Capt. Scott Dalton and I flipped docks for two hours - and I mean two hour.  We decided to see how well we would do.  Well, first we just used Burkley Gulps, he used new penny darts and I used white darts, and we caught one huge black drum, a keeper size flounder, and a slot limit redfish.  That is it - enjoy this weekend!

Report  REDS - REDS - and SNOOK, What a great day to fish!  Took out Dr. Steve Vermium from California.  Used white in color Burkely Gulps.  Work them the same way as any jerk bait.  The real trick is to stop if you think you just had a hit.  Then wait for a little bump - then set the hook.  Works for us.  Targeted areas of broken bottom and mangrove areas.

Report

Night dock fishing in winter is fantastic.  Using artificial or live bait - you can't go wrong.  Snook are hitting any thing that swims or floats. I prefer white hanging lights posed to the underwater green "Hydro-glow" lights.  Use what ever you like - just remember to cast past or to the side of the lights and hang on for some fun.  When using live bait always cast to the side - just outside into the shadow part. Try to dock fish from middle tide rising to high and to middle low tide.  Enjoy and watch out for those barnacles.

Scott Dalton and I  had used every bait in my tackle box and Capt. Scott figured out to use white spinner bait (not a buzz bait) and caught many bass up to 4 lbs. - first fished canals and backwater (to keep away from the wind) and caught only dinks using Assalt Salt Stixs - then went out to the lake and fished pointed areas of islands and found schools of Largemouths - Capt. We used jerk bait - Cottee heads and tails (rootbeer color with red heads).

Hook him using shrimp.  Very tough night!

Report  Awesome day with a couple from Venice FL,  John and Cathy Midkiff.  We started late in the day for the afternoon bite. Lake is down about 2 to 3 feet with no flow what-so-ever.  Very clear and clean up in the river which makes it easy to spot logs, holes, and nesting beds.  Fished with (believe this if you like) D.O.A. CAL jigs (black in color) and pulled in about 12 Large Mouth Bass, the biggest weighing on the "XTOOL Grip-n-weigh" 4 lbs. 3 oz. This 4 hour trip flew by wishing we started earlier and fished longer. Report  My fishing partner Capt. Scott Dalton and I finally did a 'so called' professional tournament out of Ruskin - IFA Redfish Tour.  Fishing was hard, only because of the windy conditions.  All artificial - seven hour to fish - 1st Prize $1,500 with a $10,000 boat - only paid through 20 places - 72 teams - no stress!  We saw and caught many reds (18' and up), snook (very small up to 28 inches), flounder (nice size to them), trout (all sizes), and of course jacks, ladyfish, etc...  We fished in gin clear water - where trying to find muddy waters - for those reds.  Fished with Cotee jigs, Exudes, and Burkely Gulps (VERY NEW FOR US).  These Burkely Gulps worked wonderful - only if you leave them sitting and every once in awhile twitch them.  It was hard to do when you have a time limit.

Date  November 1, 2005

Condition  Cool and very calm

Location  Key Royal Channels

Tides   Out going from 10 pm on

Style  Nighttime dock fishing

Report  Captain Scott Dalton and I fished right after those heavy rains we had all day and just ‘killed’ the snook.  We started fly fishing and saw tons of Ballyhoo so Capt. Scott wanted to net some and call this evening a live bait night.  WOW – we caught about a total of 15 snook and over half of them where in the slot range.  Average was about 27 inches.  We hooked the Ballyhoo through the top of the eyes and tossed them just passed the lights so that they will swim through the lights on their own.  Always fish around the lights never in the middle.  Moving tide plays the biggest factor of the play – so study those tide charts.

Location  Cockroach Bay

Style  Inshore flats

Report  Early morning used top water - floating the flats and picked up a few slot limit seatrout then moved closer to the shore and used jerk baits ( DOA cal silver mullets) and raised two snook and a redfish.  After 10:30am the over cast condition burned off and switched to jerk baits and DOA shrimp flipping towards the mangroves and picked up another two snook.  Later afternoon – floating the flats again and saw numerous redfish but just couldn’t bring one in – did catch seatrout and a small grouper.
