Pete Turner Memorial
Fishing Classic 2006

THE RESULTS

The Pete Turner Memorial Fishing Tournament was a huge success this weekend with great weather, large cash payouts, it’s first billfish caught and released in the nearshore division and a IGFA world record fish caught.

This year the Kiwanis Club of Palmetto handed out $25,075 in cash prizes, along with much merchandise.  They also auctioned off framed prints by Guy Harvey and Cary Chen, a live-well from Wagner Power Boats and various items from Gold Coast Eagle Distributing and others.

Capt. Brian Bower from Gibsonton on the Plan B, along with his team of Matt Bower, Jaye Ynocencio  & Steve Brownler, stole the bragging rights for this year’s Inshore 1st place along with $7,750.00 in cash, team “winners” shirts and an aluminum Tarpon made and designed by Rob Kozmits. Their catch included two 32” Redfish, 41” Snook, 36” Snook, 22” Trout & a 20” Trout.

2nd Place
Inshore went to the “Rock Bottom” Team, Captained by Brett Norris from St. Pete, along with Chris Wiggins and Alan Marsh for $4,250.00 in cash. They caught 31” Redfish, 33” Redfish, 36” Snook, 35” Snook and two 21” trout.

3rd Place
Inshore, with a catch of 42” Snook, 40” Snook, two 29” Redfish and two 19” trout, went to the “Fishful Thinking” Team from Northport, Capt. Ryan Rowan and Wayne Nichols.

The $1,000 cash prize for the largest Redfish sponsored by Red Hoagland Pontiac GMC went to the “Hawg Hunters” team with a 36” Redfish released.

The Junior division came in with some impressive catches as usual.

1st Place
, along with $500 in cash, team “winners” shirts and an aluminum Snook by Rob Kozmits went to Capt. Chase Gause & Michael Kayser on the Wild ‘n Out Team.  They also won the 2nd place Trash Can Slam for $300.00

 2nd Place and $275.00 along with prizes went to Team Sign Zoo, captained Ryan Shannon and included Nick Ross, Charlie Woodson & Gary McGregor.

3rd Place
and $150.00 along with prizes went to the Yank’in Out Team consisting of Capt. Matt Stone, Brandon Thompson & Matt Redmond.

 The Trash Can Slam which was sponsored by Popi’s Restaurants paid out $500 to Capt. Ashley Grant and her team for their “outstanding” catch of a 24” catfish, a stingray and a 24” ladyfish.

2nd place and $300 went to the junior team “Wild ‘n Out for their 22” catfish, 26” jack and a 16” Ladyfish. 3rd place and $200 went to Capt. Daniel Patterson and his team for their catch of a 20” catfish, 25” jack and a 16” ladyfish

Nearshore

The first billfish in the nearshore division was caught and released aboard the Offshore Breeze who took 1st place in that division.  Capt. Rick Breeze along with his team of Richard Beyer, Ben Breeze, Josh Lunde & George Breeze caught a sailfish, 44 pound grouper, 22 pound tuna, 16 pound grouper and a 2 & 4 pound snapper. They took home $5,000.00 in cash, team “winners” shirts, and an aluminum tuna.

2nd place
, captained by Wayne Browning on the “Asian Invasion” Team also came in with an outstanding caught of an 87 pound amberjack, two 23 pound tuna, 10 pound grouper & a 9 pound snapper.  His team of Rav Vongkorad, Doug Cole & Agustin Camejo went away with $2000.00 in cash.

3rd place
and $1,000.00 went to the “Wild Card” team bring in a 55 pound amberjack, 41 pound cobia, 23 pound tuna, 14 pound grouper and a 6 & 8 pound snapper caught by Capt Jeff Cobb, Clayton Cobb and Joe Falcone.

 To round out a spectacular tournament weekend, the “Reel Relief” team brought in a 13 pound, 6 ounce Saucereye Porgy to set a new IGFA record, caught by the captain, David Edwards.
