hi folks, this kinda took the wind out of my sails! kudos
to eric weiss,18, who landed this beaut in ~ 60 min on 12# gear in jupiter
inlet about 1730 this past Wednesday. she meas ~ 48-49 ins fork length
(because the tail was so tattered) and had a 29 in girth. our predictive
equation has no snook that large in it so our estimate of 38 lbs is far
off the mark. using the old length X girth squared/800 gives you somewhere
around 51 lbs. but... that's tl and our meas is fl. add another 2-3 ins
for the difference and this fish just may be the largest common snook. but
we'll never know because the measurements were imperfect and the fish was
released alive. kudos to eric.
